McKims Jewellery Design
Craig McKim from McKims Jewellers in Brisbane was the prestigious winner of the Reinvention Award at the Harper’s BAZAAR Diamond Guild Australia 2009 Jewellery Awards. The McKim Jewellers piece was praised for its originality, innovation and fashion appeal as well as quality of workmanship which is highly commended in this particular category. McKim says, "This piece is hugely sentimental to my client so we’re both thrilled with the win."
Reinvention
McKims had a lot of fun working through the design process and it was very rewarding to see the expression on the client's face. The reinvented piece took the original heart shaped solitaire diamond and furthered the concept, combining the traditional wedding, engagement and eternity ring into one.
The solitaire is represented by the central stone, floating alone and framed in black enamel to emphasize the heart motif and supported by the yellow gold band which flows into, around and beneath. To either side are white gold bands, organic in feel which while following the center, maintain their own shape and create their own line - simple for the wedding band, and a stylized crossover for the eternity.
