Perhaps one of the most difficult categories to win, the Solitaire Award at the Harper’s BAZAAR Diamond Guild Australia 2009 Jewellery Awards was won by John Calleija at Calleija Jewellers. The wining piece, called Pure Zen, is an 18ct white gold ring featuring a 2.33ct pear shaped, solitaire diamond with a reclining enamel inlaid band. The piece was admired for its ability to create the unique illusion that the diamond is floating above the wearers hand. 

Calleija said, "This piece was inspired by my passion for unique and bespoke design. I wanted to create something that had never been seen before and, to my knowledge, a diamond has never been set like this before."
