Holloway Diamonds
Melbourne jeweller Holloway Diamonds has won the inaugural Men's Jewellery Award. Designer Garry Holloway created a unique ebony, platinum and diamond bracelet, called Domino Effect. Inspired by the simple yet masculine domino, Mr Holloway explained that his design replaced the dot on the dominoes with diamonds to create a contrast between the dark ivory and the sparkling diamonds.
Design Inspiration
Holloway Diamonds conducted an internal brainstorming session using word associations. It began with black and white, which lead to ebony and ivory and then to Domino! With a little further refining the concept was born. Sourcing the ebony proved a challenge as local supply was limited and not dark enough. The ebony was eventually sourced from a saw mill in Africa where it grows in the jungles. The construction of the piece reflects the cascading effect of dominoes falling on to each other.
